What does it mean to follow Christ?
Our Sin
We are all born with a sin nature that causes our relationship with God to be fractured. Sin is anything we do that goes against God’s plan and instructions for our life. We need forgiveness of our sin in order to restore our relationship to God.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” - Romans 3:23
God’s Gift
We can’t earn God’s forgiveness – it must be given. But because of God’s love for us, even as sinners, he made plans to gift us forgiveness. God sent his son Jesus to give His life so that we could be forgiven.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” - Romans 6:23
“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” - Romans 5:8
Our Response
We must accept this free gift from God by believing in Him and committing our life to following Jesus.
“Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” - Romans 10:9
“For everyone who Calls on the Lord will be Saved” - Romans 10:13
A Symbol of our Faith
Baptism shows others that you have been made new. It is an outward declaration of your inward decision to follow Christ . Baptism represents your old sinful life being put to death, and you being raised to a new life of following Jesus.
“We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.” Romans 6:4
